The announcement represents a significant milestone for both Chanel and the Australian fashion market. While luxury brands have increasingly staged destination shows outside the traditional fashion week calendar, Australia has rarely served as a host for runway presentations of this scale. Chanel’s decision to bring the collection to Sydney highlights the growing importance of the country within the brand’s global strategy.
In an official statement, Chanel said: “After having been unveiled in Biarritz on 28th April, Matthieu Blazy’s first Cruise collection for Chanel will make a stopover on Thursday 5th November 2026 in Sydney – a city distinguished by its spectacular harbour, world-famous surf beaches, and vibrant cultural scene.”
The house added: “The choice of Sydney for the House’s first runway show in Australia resonates with the spirit of the Cruise collection, which is resolutely focused on movement and an elsewhere.”
The Resort 2027 collection, designed by Creative Director Matthieu Blazy, drew inspiration from seaside living, featuring nautical stripes, raffia textures, swim caps, and other coastal references. First presented against the backdrop of France’s Basque Coast, the collection embraced a relaxed yet sophisticated vision of summer. Sydney, with its strong beach culture and outdoor lifestyle, provides a natural setting for the collection’s Australian debut.
A Global Destination Strategy
The Sydney presentation is part of Chanel’s broader strategy of extending the life of its collections through international destination events. In recent years, the house has brought its Cruise and Métiers d’Art collections to key cities around the world, strengthening relationships with local clients, media, and cultural communities.
Most recently, Chanel restaged its Métiers d’Art collection in Seoul after its debut in New York, drawing an international guest list that included G-Dragon and Jennie and generating widespread global attention.
Following the Sydney show, Chanel is scheduled to unveil its next Métiers d’Art collection in Rome on December 2, further reinforcing the brand’s strategy of connecting fashion, culture, and place through destination-focused events.
