Its closure marks the end of an era for one of the most recognizable landmarks in the retailer’s hometown.

Store Network Restructuring as Part of Turnaround Efforts
The closure forms part of Saks Global’s broader restructuring and store portfolio review.
After acquiring Neiman Marcus in 2024, Saks Global filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2026. The company cited financial pressures related to more than $2 billion in acquisition-related debt, as well as challenges involving vendor payments.
Saks Global is currently pursuing its turnaround plan with approximately $1.75 billion in financing secured during the bankruptcy process while optimizing its store portfolio.
In a statement, the company said: “As we continue to take steps to secure a strong future for Neiman Marcus, our optimized store footprint is aimed at aligning our go-forward presence with customer demand and preferences. After a thorough evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas store on September 30, 2026, and concentrate our resources where our customers prefer to shop.”
Efforts to Preserve the Store Ultimately Fall Short
The future of the downtown Dallas flagship had been the subject of ongoing discussions and negotiations since 2025.
In February 2025, Saks Global first announced plans to close the store, citing a dispute related to its ground lease. The announcement prompted efforts from city officials and local business leaders to keep the location open. At one point, the owner of a parcel of land beneath the store agreed to donate it to the City of Dallas in an effort to remove obstacles to the store’s continued operation.
The closure was subsequently delayed, and the company agreed to keep the store open through the 2025 holiday season while exploring redevelopment and reimagining options with the city. Ultimately, however, the flagship’s closure was confirmed as part of the company’s restructuring plan.
Focus Shifts to NorthPark Center
According to Saks Global, the company’s future presence in the Dallas market will center on its NorthPark Center location.
The company described Dallas as an extremely important market for the Neiman Marcus brand and noted that customers throughout the city and surrounding suburbs have consistently chosen to shop at the NorthPark store. Saks Global also indicated that it plans to incorporate elements honoring the downtown flagship’s rich history into the NorthPark location.
In addition, the company announced that the Neiman Marcus store at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano will close in January 2027.
Following those closures, Neiman Marcus will operate two stores in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex: NorthPark Center in Dallas and The Shops at Clearfork in Fort Worth.
