Sandy Liang Spring/Summer 2027 : Turning Practicality into Fantasy for Girls Who Call Versailles Home

For Spring/Summer 2027, New York-based Sandy Liang envisioned a woman who dresses not simply for the demands of the day, but for her shifting moods and impulses.

To understand what one wants to wear—and to embrace the freedom of changing one’s mind—is the collection’s starting point. From there emerged a distinctly Sandy Liang fantasy, one in which the functionality required to move through the city coexists with the pleasure of dressing like a princess.

The show opened with a utilitarian proposition: a black technical jacket paired with a miniskirt and a multi-pocket bag secured around the waist. Referencing the practical language of outdoor clothing, the look recast performance gear as a uniform for urban life.

What followed softened that premise. Relaxed V-neck knits were paired with glossy pink bottoms and utility bags, bringing sweetness and a futuristic sheen to familiar wardrobe staples. Pockets, belts, cords, and seemingly detachable components appeared throughout the collection. More than decorative details, they gave visible form to Liang’s interest in modularity—the idea that clothing and accessories might shift according to the wearer’s plans, needs, or whims.

At the heart of the collection was a styling language that brought sporty functionality into dialogue with elements of lingerie, ballet, and princess dressing.

Bra tops featuring floral motifs, lace, and lustrous blue finishes were paired with knee-length shorts and cargo-detailed bottoms. Elsewhere, a sheer white lace skirt was layered beneath a cropped trench jacket, bringing the precision of classic outerwear and romantic lightness together within a single silhouette.

Full white lace skirts, black tulle, pale pink satin, and tutus with trailing ribbons recalled the excitement of dressing up. Yet Liang did not confine these images to nostalgia. By pairing them with windbreakers, track jackets, Bermuda shorts, and belt bags, she reimagined the dreamer’s wardrobe for a woman moving freely through the contemporary city.

The tailoring also brought a poised sense of tension to the collection. A black jacket with a vertical row of pearl-like buttons was paired with vivid cobalt-blue shorts. An asymmetric black suit blurred the boundary between trousers and a skirt, introducing an unexpected twist to classic construction.

The label’s characteristic delicacy remained present in an acid-green satin coat and a cardigan adorned with slender ribbons. At the same time, restrained silhouettes and precise tailoring gave this season’s Sandy Liang wardrobe a greater sense of polish and maturity.

Elsewhere, long panels extending almost to the floor from a black high-neck dress and an off-the-shoulder satin look shaped like an oversized bow created drama through the movement of fabric itself, rather than through an excess of decoration.

Pastel technical clothing returned to the foreground midway through the collection. White parkas were worn with pale pink trousers and translucent shorts, while a blue polka-dot set was gathered with a broad sash. Trousers emblazoned with the word “Versailles” humorously redirected the visual language of sports and outdoor graphics toward an imagined royal court.

Toward the end of the show, pink, ice blue, lavender, and white took over. Tiny florals, polka dots, checks, ruffles, and transparent paillettes created surfaces that shifted with movement. Asymmetric ruffled minidresses, off-the-shoulder styles with trailing sashes, and corsets paired with tulle skirts brought the princess motif into increasingly clear focus.

Still, this was not a fairy tale detached from reality. The bags contained more pockets than one might ever need. Belts and straps crossed delicate dresses, while technical jackets were layered over romantic skirts like protective shells. For Liang, fantasy is not the opposite of function. It is a tool for moving more freely through everyday life.

Nostalgia and futurism, lingerie and workwear, princesses and the outdoors—Spring/Summer 2027 allowed these apparent contradictions to coexist without forcing them into perfect harmony. The result was a portrait of a woman unwilling to choose between dressing up, moving through the world, and continuing to dream.

Her home team may be Versailles, but the streets she moves through belong firmly to the present.
