The shift to full ownership was first reported on July 28 by drinks industry publication Global Drinks Intel.
A spokesperson for SirDavis said of the transition:
“SirDavis starts its new independent chapter, after a nearly four-year transformative collaboration through creation, development and launch.”
According to the brand, Knowles-Carter has taken full ownership and control of SirDavis, making it a woman-, family- and Black-owned company.
The spokesperson also highlighted Beyoncé’s experience building and operating businesses from the ground up as the brand moves into its next phase.
On August 10, LVMH separately confirmed to Reuters that it had sold its stake in SirDavis to Beyoncé. The French luxury group, however, did not disclose the value of the transaction, the terms of the deal or its reasons for exiting the investment.
Launched in 2024 as a Joint Venture With Moët Hennessy
SirDavis was officially unveiled in August 2024 as a joint venture between Beyoncé and Moët Hennessy, LVMH’s wines and spirits division.
At the time, LVMH described the project as a first-of-its-kind joint venture developed around a shared vision for the future of American whisky.
The brand takes its name from Beyoncé’s paternal great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, who worked as a farmer in the American South during Prohibition and was also known to make whisky. According to LVMH, he stored bottles in the hollows of cedar trees for friends and family to find.
For Beyoncé, who had long been a whisky enthusiast, discovering that part of her family history became a central inspiration behind the creation of SirDavis.
“When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated,” Beyoncé said when the brand was introduced in 2024.
The whisky was developed with Dr. Bill Lumsden, the master distiller known for his work with Glenmorangie and Ardbeg. Its mash bill consists of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, followed by secondary maturation in sherry casks, combining elements inspired by Japanese and Scotch whiskies with the structure and character of American rye.
The whisky is finished, blended and bottled in Beyoncé’s home state of Texas.
At the time of its launch, LVMH also described SirDavis as the first spirits brand Moët Hennessy had developed entirely from the ground up in the United States, rather than through the acquisition of an existing label. The brand is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
Following nearly four years of collaboration across the development and launch of SirDavis, the brand is now moving into a new phase under Beyoncé’s full ownership and control.
