Dyson Enters the Oral Care Market, Taking Its Premium Strategy Beyond Hair Care
From hair care to home technology, Dyson has built its reputation on rethinking established product categories through engineering. Now, the company is turning its attention to a new frontier: oral care.
On September 1, Dyson unveiled the Dyson CameraJet
, its first oral care product. Combining a camera, AI-powered machine learning, brushing technology and precision fluid delivery in a single device, the electric toothbrush is designed to detect and clean between teeth while users brush.
Six years in development, CameraJet involved 661 Dyson engineers. The company has also filed 38 patents related to the device.

Using Cameras and AI to “See” Between Teeth
As Dyson explored its entry into oral care, it focused on an area that conventional daily brushing can struggle to reach: the gaps between teeth. Its answer was to use a camera and AI to identify those spaces and target them precisely during cleaning.
At the heart of CameraJet is, in effect, the idea of giving the toothbrush its own “eyes.” The device features a 100k-pixel macro-lens camera, while Dyson’s proprietary Gap Optical Targeting
technology uses an AI machine-learning algorithm to analyze 28 images per second, identifying, tracking and predicting gaps between teeth in real time.
Supporting these capabilities is a substantial software operation. CameraJet runs on 16 million lines of code, while more than 470,000 dental images were collected during the development of its machine-learning system.
Through integration with the MyDyson
app, users can also access a live view while brushing, alongside cleaning guidance, brushing and flossing insights, coverage mapping and personalized feedback. With privacy in mind, camera images are not recorded or stored on the device or in the cloud and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the user.

“Flossing is an awkward and time-consuming chore. Few of us do it even though we know we should.”
By bringing together cameras, machine learning, precision fluid dynamics, advanced brushing technologies, connectivity and Wi-Fi in a single device, CameraJet is designed to bring two traditionally separate steps — brushing and interdental cleaning — into one routine.
Taking the Premium Strategy Built in Hair Care to Oral Care
What makes Dyson’s entry into oral care particularly notable is not simply the technology itself. It also brings into the category an approach the company has refined through hair care: using engineering to create new forms of consumer value around familiar everyday products.
CameraJet is priced at $499.99 in the U.S., placing it well above a conventional electric toothbrush. Perhaps more significant is that Dyson’s move into oral care extends beyond a single device.
Alongside CameraJet, the company has developed its own low-foaming toothpaste and mouth rinse. The toothpaste is formulated without SLS to avoid obstructing the camera’s view, while the mouth rinse is designed with low-foaming properties for use with CameraJet’s precision jet system.
CameraJet, then, is more than a $499.99 premium electric toothbrush. By bringing together hardware, software and proprietary formulations, the product could provide the foundation for a broader Dyson oral care ecosystem.
In hair care, Dyson has combined technology and design to bring new premium value to everyday styling tools. As its focus expands from hair to the mouth, the company’s ambitions also appear to be moving beyond “Beauty Tech” toward a broader vision of “Personal Care Tech.”
