Nearly Six Years at Diesel
Martens was appointed creative director of Diesel in 2020 and has since spent nearly six years shaping the brand’s creative direction.
Founded by Renzo Rosso in 1978, Diesel has long placed denim at the heart of its identity. Under Martens, that foundation remained central as he pushed the material through experimental treatments and constructions, while also introducing new approaches to how the brand presented its collections beyond the conventional runway format.
For Spring/Summer 2026, presented in Milan in September 2025, Diesel staged a citywide experience featuring giant transparent egg-shaped installations, opening the collection to the public. OTB described the event as Diesel’s first “fully public show.”
The period also coincided with changes in the brand’s business performance. According to OTB’s 2025 financial results, Diesel recorded its highest profitability in a decade as the company continued to invest in the brand’s repositioning.
In January 2026, Andrea Rigogliosi was appointed CEO of Diesel. At the time, OTB Chairman Renzo Rosso reflected on the transformation of the brand under Martens’ creative direction, pointing to a renewed connection with Diesel’s original DNA and its evolution into a more contemporary expression.
Martens to Continue at Maison Margiela
Alongside his role at Diesel, Martens was appointed creative director of Maison Margiela in January 2025, succeeding John Galliano.
He presented his first Artisanal collection for the house during Paris Haute Couture Week in July 2025, before extending his creative direction into Maison Margiela’s ready-to-wear collections.
Maison Margiela also recorded growth during the period. According to OTB’s 2025 financial results, the house grew 8.4 percent year over year, making it the group’s fastest-growing brand that year.
Martens’ departure will bring to a close a nearly six-year creative partnership with Diesel that began in 2020.
His final chapter at the brand will unfold in Milan next week, when Diesel presents its Spring/Summer 2027 collection.
