ENFÖLD Spring/Summer 2027: A New Form of Dress Inspired by Architecture

On August 31, ENFÖLD, led by creative director Mizuki Ueda, presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection at Warehouse TERRADA in Tennoz, Tokyo. Titled “WRAPPING STRUCTURE,” the collection drew inspiration from the construction of architecture.

A building is shaped not only by the walls and roof visible from the outside, but also by the utilities within, the framework that supports it, and the outer skin that conceals those elements. ENFÖLD translated this architectural logic into clothing.

Summary

Here, garments were not treated simply as a means of covering the body, but as structures capable of creating new forms around it. Through silhouettes that came alive as the models moved and the fabrics shifted, the brand explored a renewed relationship between clothing and the body.

Creating Space Around the Body

The opening look was a crisp white tailored jacket with sharp, structured shoulders. Its silhouette felt commanding yet elegant, immediately establishing the collection’s architectural direction.

ENFÖLD has long excelled at creating space between the garment and the wearer, rather than closely tracing the body. This season, jackets, coats, and shirts were designed to stand slightly apart from the figure, changing character not only from different angles but also with every step.

At the heart of the collection were three elements: “INNER / STRUCTURE / SKIN,” corresponding to a building’s interior, framework, and outer surface.

In looks that layered shirts, knitwear, and sheer materials, details normally concealed beneath a garment were deliberately brought into view. Uneven hems, asymmetrical constructions, and panels extending from the front and back created silhouettes that appeared different depending on the angle.

The Contrast Between Rigidity and Softness

Bonded fabrics, enamel-like finishes, and slubbed linen brought a range of textures to the collection. Firm materials met fluid fabrics, while rough surfaces contrasted with glossy finishes. By combining these opposing qualities within a single look, ENFÖLD reflected the multiple layers found in architecture.

Structured jackets were paired with lightweight skirts, while voluminous tops were balanced by slimmer bottoms. Rigidity and softness, straight lines and curves, oversized shapes and compact proportions came together in combinations that felt distinctive yet approachable.

Even seemingly simple shirts and knits revealed subtle interventions. Contrasting fabrics emerged from beneath hems, while familiar elements were shifted slightly out of place. Rather than relying on decoration, ENFÖLD created freshness by gently altering the construction of the clothes themselves, bringing a sense of play to the collection.

Architectural Lines Reimagined as Graphic Prints

Among the most striking pieces were graphic looks featuring red and blue lines across crisp white backgrounds.

Created by graphic designer Takahiro Yamaguchi, the motifs transformed the straight lines of architecture into freer, more organic forms. Sweeping across coats, shirts, and wide-leg trousers, the graphics resembled architectural drawings reworked directly onto the clothes.

Although visually bold, the lines retained a hand-drawn irregularity that kept them from feeling overly rigid. The result brought warmth and a human quality to the architectural theme, becoming one of the collection’s clearest visual statements.

Color Brings Warmth to the Structure

The collection began with a restrained palette of beige, white, navy, and black before gradually expanding into lemon yellow, lime green, blue, purple, pink, and orange.

These colors were inspired by the work of architect Luis Barragán, celebrated for introducing vivid color into otherwise minimal architectural spaces.

At ENFÖLD, saturated hues did not always dominate an entire look. Instead, they appeared in flashes through inner layers, cuffs, socks, and footwear. Bright colors emerging from beneath more subdued garments added depth and lightness to the styling.

Colorful eye makeup created with the support of NARS further emphasized the clothes’ shapes and palette. The expressive beauty looks added a subtle tension to the models’ faces and sharpened the overall mood of the show.

A Modern Interpretation of Traditional Setta Sandals

The collection extended its architectural thinking to the feet through a collaboration with goyemon, a product brand known for reinterpreting traditional Japanese footwear from a contemporary perspective.

The resulting setta sandals featured a distinctive midsole that projected forward at the toe. Padded upper sections were made from the same fabrics used in the collection, while an additional horizontal strap created a more elegant line across the foot.

Styled with brightly colored socks, the sandals brought an energetic contrast to the collection’s voluminous silhouettes. They also completed the season’s vision by considering the feet as the point where the body is supported and connected to the ground.

ENFÖLD’s architectural approach was not about transforming buildings directly into clothes. Instead, it considered how contrasting elements—interior and exterior, firmness and softness, function and decoration—could coexist within a single garment.

Rather than concealing the body, the collection created new spaces around it. Fabrics shifted with movement, allowing silhouettes to change from one moment to the next. ENFÖLD’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection offered a thoughtful reminder that clothing is not static: it is completed only when it is worn.
