Madhappy Opens a Seoul Flagship, Bringing California Optimism to Dosan Park

Los Angeles-based clothing brand Madhappy is expanding its international presence with a new flagship store in Seoul. Following its Tokyo location, Madhappy Seoul marks the brand’s second international store and fifth flagship globally.

Situated in the Dosan Park neighborhood—an increasingly prominent destination for fashion, beauty and art—the approximately 3,400-square-foot space translates Madhappy’s optimism-led identity into an environment shaped by design, hospitality and community.

Summary

  • Madhappy opens Madhappy Seoul in the Dosan Park district—its second international store and fifth flagship globally.
  • Designed with PlayLab, Inc., the 3,400-square-foot space is built around an “abstract forest” of wooden columns and blue terrazzo.
  • The flagship houses Pantry, Madhappy’s café concept, with Los Angeles and Seoul partners LOQUAT COFFEE, Maison M’O and ZENZERO.
  • Store-exclusive capsules and collaborations with Hanes and PUMA launch alongside; the store opens Saturday, September 5.

An Abstract Forest Takes Shape in Seoul

The store was designed in partnership with Los Angeles-based creative studio PlayLab, Inc., marking the fourth retail collaboration between the two companies.

For Seoul, Madhappy and PlayLab conceived an “abstract forest” formed by a series of wooden columns. Some were preserved from the building’s original structure, while others were newly added to organize the shopping, café and community areas. Rather than dividing the interior into rigid sections, the columns guide visitors through an open, free-flowing environment.

Behind the building’s all-glass façade, poured blue terrazzo extends across the floors and walls, creating a continuous field from which the wooden columns rise. The contrast between the vivid blue surface and the warmth of the wood gives the space its defining visual rhythm.

At the center of the store, two columns also function as sculptural speakers, accompanied by a pair of custom glass-and-fabric sofas. Red lacquer millwork appears throughout the interior, including in the fitting rooms, where it is finished with metal fixtures. Custom red lacquer vases echo the same palette across the space.

Outside, a garden furnished with custom benches extends the design beyond the storefront. Its connection to nature and emphasis on gathering reflect a central idea found across Madhappy’s retail spaces: the store as a place for conversation and community, as well as commerce.

Pantry Connects the Culinary Cultures of Los Angeles and Seoul

The flagship will also house Pantry, Madhappy’s café concept first introduced in West Hollywood. Its Seoul menu brings together partners from Los Angeles and South Korea, connecting their respective culinary cultures and areas of expertise through a daily collaborative offering.

Los Angeles-based specialty coffee roaster LOQUAT COFFEE has developed a custom blend exclusively for Pantry Seoul.

Seoul-based French pàtisserie Maison M’O will offer a daily selection of pastries informed by its refined approach to classic techniques and premium ingredients.

Also based in Seoul, gelateria ZENZERO will serve a rotating assortment of gelato made with seasonal ingredients and characterized by unexpected yet carefully balanced flavors.

By bringing fashion and food together within a single setting, Pantry gives visitors another reason to spend time in the store. It also translates Madhappy’s community-focused philosophy into a more casual and everyday form of interaction.

Store-Exclusive Capsules and New Collaborations

To commemorate the opening, Madhappy will release special limited-edition capsules available exclusively at the Seoul flagship. The store will also carry the brand’s latest collections, including collaborations with Hanes and PUMA.

Founded in Los Angeles in 2017, Madhappy has built its identity around optimism, expressing the idea through apparel, events and experimental retail spaces around the world. The company also publishes Local Optimist magazine and supports mental health research and awareness through The Madhappy Foundation.

From West Hollywood to New York, Tokyo, Malibu and now Seoul, Madhappy continues to develop a retail language that adapts to its surroundings. Rather than simply transplanting California optimism into a new market, the Seoul flagship reframes it through a dialogue with the city’s architecture, creative culture and culinary landscape.

Madhappy Seoul will open on Saturday, September 5, and operate daily from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
