German luxury luggage house RIMOWA has joined forces with heritage writing instrument maker Faber-Castell to unveil the limited-edition RIMOWA × Faber-Castell Artist Case. Bringing together two enduring names in German craftsmanship, the collaboration reimagines the relationship between movement and creativity through a portable collection of professional drawing tools. The Artist Case will launch globally on September 17, 2026.

Since its founding in 1898, RIMOWA has developed objects designed to accompany people through movement. Faber-Castell, established in Germany in 1761, has spent more than two and a half centuries supporting creative expression through its writing and drawing instruments.

Although the two companies come from different disciplines, they are connected by the idea of carrying possibilities forward. A landscape, observation or fleeting impression discovered while travelling can become the beginning of a sketch, a composition or an entirely new body of work.

The collaboration brings RIMOWA’s expertise in portability and aluminium construction together with Faber-Castell’s knowledge of artists’ materials. The result is more than a case for storing supplies. It is a portable studio designed to transform inspiration into something tangible, wherever it may appear.

An Aluminium Case Housing 120 Polychromos Colours

Made at RIMOWA’s facility in Cologne, Germany, the silver Artist Case is constructed from high-quality anodised aluminium. Its exterior combines the Maison’s characteristic material language with a leather handle inspired by the design codes of RIMOWA’s Classic collection.

Inside is a complete selection of German-made drawing instruments intended to support the creative process from an initial sketch through to colour and completion.

At the centre of the set are 120 Polychromos coloured pencils. Known for their richly pigmented, oil-based leads, the pencils offer smooth and even application, vivid colour and a high degree of colour stability.

The case also includes co-branded 2B graphite pencils featuring a surface treatment inspired by RIMOWA’s signature grooves. A platinum-plated sharpener bearing the RIMOWA logo and an accompanying eraser complete the collection.

A specially developed two-level tray system organises the contents of the case. When opened, the structure unfolds to reveal each tool in a carefully arranged display, allowing individual pencils and accessories to remain visible and within easy reach. Storage and presentation become part of the same experience.

A Design Shaped by Its Owner

RIMOWA’s aluminium pieces are designed to develop a distinctive patina over time. Scratches, marks and changes in the surface become records of use, giving each object an individual character.

The Artist Case follows the same philosophy. As it travels between a home, studio and unfamiliar destination, its exterior gradually reflects the creative life of its owner. It may be displayed as a meticulously constructed collector’s piece, but its purpose remains functional: to carry the instruments required to begin making something.

That tension gives the object its particular presence. It is both carefully resolved and intended to evolve, balancing the permanence of craftsmanship with the unpredictability of the creative process.

RIMOWA has long framed luggage as a witness to movement and memory, while Faber-Castell has built its legacy around the possibilities that can begin with a single pencil. Their collaboration suggests that travel need not be exclusively physical. Imagination, too, can provide a passage into places not yet known.

The RIMOWA × Faber-Castell Artist Case will be available globally from September 17, 2026, at RIMOWA stores worldwide and online at RIMOWA.com. It will also be offered through Faber-Castell retail stores in Germany and the company’s EU online store.
